UVA Karsh Institute of Democracy
Overview
The project comprises a 430-seat auditorium, media production space, classrooms, collaboration space, and offices. Its goal is to achieve LEED Gold Certification and participate in the Design for Freedom initiative.
The Karsh Institute’s building is conceived as a dynamic educational hub, fostering scholarship, teaching, and engagement centered on democracy while honoring the University’s heritage. Approximately 17,500 square feet of the building will house the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. The design prioritizes collaboration, creating an environment that facilitates partnerships between the Karsh Institute, the Batten School, and various schools, centers, and departments across Grounds.
